Can characters on tv shows be trademarked? Say Jane Blur is a character on the tv show Who Knows You. Is her name trademarked?

I could be wrong, but I always thought a trademark was a name or mark on a product, example- Nike is written on their shoes and clothing. Isn't Nike a trademark?

I've learn that Mickey Mouse was a trademark. How is that? Isn't Mickey Mouse just a name?

If Mickey Mouse is a trademark, is Superman, Wonderwoman, spiderman, and all those other famous cartoon characters trademark as well?

What makes Mickey Mouse a trademark?

I hope someone can help me or at least point me in the direction, where I can find out.

Thank you.
