What if a name is not registered?

If a name of an airplane is not registered, for instance the Cessna "SkyWagon", can it be used to describe and advertise my product, which is an identical copy? If no patent is filed, can I legally produce an exact copy?

The airplane is no longer produced by the company that used to make them.
