: A reader just showed me how to to a copyright symbol. © Do you know how to do the R in a circle?

You mean, like this: ®? Sadly, there is no "standard" way to do it that will be reliably readable on all systems, because that part of ascii is decidedly non-standard. To enter that symbol in Windows, you:

* make sure the num lock is set
* hold down the alt key
* on the numeric keypad -- NOT the top row keys -- type "0174".
* release the alt key.

You can find other key mappings in the applet "Start...Programs...Accessories...System Tools...Character Map". Note, however, that the mapping will be different for different fonts, and someone reading the page on a non-Microsoft system will probably just see a question mark.

The reliable way to enter this into a web page is to use the entity "®" -- copyright is "©" -- but this won't work if the forum doesn't interpret html markup.
