: I got the ® right on my screen but I don't understand the "escape". "Escape" is a generic computer term that means telling the computer to stop interpreting things the normal way for a while. In HTML, surrounding something with an ampersand (&) and a semicolon (;) is a way of "escaping" to a different way of interpreting the enclosed text. Thus, "©" tells the browser to insert a copyright symbol (©) rather than the word "copy". However, since the ampersand has a special meaning like this, it makes it harder to simply type an ampersand into the text. This is done by "escaping the escape symbol", in this case using the construct &. I'm sure you can imagine that it is a bit tricky to get the string & to show up in the text -- basically I have to type & -- and to get *that* to print, I had to type & ... :-)
