: I am starting a new business and trying to decide what to name it. There is a name that I like, for example "my-name". However, the word mark "my name"(no hyphen) is registered to another company with an entirely different name. There is no company that is named "my name". In fact, "my name" is the name of a magazine published by the different company. Can I name my company "my-name" without worrying about legal consequences. : Also, can I register the domain name, www.my-name.com? Currently, www.myname.com is registered to the other company. : : Thanks, : Dave Cohen : dcohen@webstrategy.com The facts are too vague, There is Trade Name Trademark and an antidilution Statute. A trademark can be used to stop a trade name that is likely to be confused with the trademark for the goods or services involved. M.
