Do we need to trademark at all?

Hello,

We, Trend Builder, Inc., own and operate a large ethnic portal website named SerbianCafe.com. We are located and incorporated in Canada.

The site's domain and services were established in 1996. Due to it's success a number of copycat sites have been registered:
http://www.serbiancafe.co.uk
http://www.serbiancafe.net
http://www.serbiancafe.de
...

How can we make sure that others can't use our name, and what are the odds of Serbian Cafe receiving a trademark? If granted would it apply to US and Canada only, or globally?
