I'm looking for someone who may be interested in writing an article on software patents from the perspective of Open Source software development. : Specifically, I'm hoping to find someone to write an article providing advice for the individual software developers and the people who run open source projects to help them stay out of patent lawsuits. : I'm imagining this may cover things like: : - What is a software patent (SP)? : - What is the state of SP's in America today? : - What should the agreement betweeen the individual developers and the 'project' be? : - What can be done with open source software licensing to provide protection to the group and individual developers : - what is 'prior art' and how can it be demonstrated : - what corporate form should the group take to provide the most protection : - what about the 'volunteer protection act'? : - If the developers are not American, but the group is - does that matter? : - Should these groups be incorporated outside of America? The teams are generally international in nature anyway. : or some sub-/super-set of this. : Our distribution is 40K+ issues targetted toward business decision makers. The author would receive by-line and their picture in the periodical. If the author can make available a variety of photos of themselves we can make the article really look professional -- our graphics people are fantastic.
