To specifically answer your question, as correctly noted by Mr. Auslander, you will need to get a JD if you want to be a U.S. patent attorney. It typically takes three years to get a JD degree if you're a full-time "day" student. However, there are many law schools that offer four-year "night" programs for working students. Several of the attorneys that I work with chose to work as patent agents while being "night" students. I hope that the above is an adequate answer to your question.
