Can you violate patents indirectly? For example, suppose I wrote a technical book that explained in detail how a patented device works (basically summarizing the patent), would this be infringeing on the patent since I'm indirectly making money off the patent? In a related question, are the drawings on patents copyrighted? Or can I freely use them in a book? Also, is it infringement to build a copy of a patented device in your own shop for your own personal use? (it's not being sold to anyone--just being used by yourself). Does it matter that this personal use may involve using the device as a tool in the person's job? Thanks.
