Your video would be protected by copyright the moment you make it. You need to register it to the PTO, however. If this was a BMX bike contest, you should find out what document(s) the contestants signed. There may be a clause allowing publication of the contestants. Or, you could contact the organizers and get their permission--in writing, of course.
