In order to protect these I would like to transfer these to DVD either myself or by using a video to dvd conversion service. Will I be breaking the law if this duplication is purely for my personal backup and use? If not, what do I need to provide to the company doing video to dvd service so that they are satisfied they can carry out the conversion? Dear Miki Marsioly, Breaking a law usually refers to a crime, infringment is usually violating a right. I believe a download to a VCR is an infringement, just as making a photocopy can be an infringement. I am not aware of infrinement actions on photocopies unless the copyies are openly sold. This is not a question of law but of reality. M. Arthur Auslander Auslander & Thomas-Intellectual Property Law Since 1909
