2) Getting sick of Win7 on work box... installed Ubuntu 13.10 64bit and Firefox. Got OpenJDK7 installed.
IT'S WORKING!!!! I'm in private pair on LINUX!!!! :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Not entirely sure I trust it for EFS-WEB yet but HELL YEAH! I'm delighted!

Wow, I've never got OpenJDK working.  I assume you're using the icedtea plugin.

Hmmm....  I've always had a really hard time managing different Java flavors and versions, maybe a clean removal of all Javas and clean new install of OpenJDK would do the trick.  On the other hand, I'm afraid EFSweb might break (or at least not play well with) OpenJDK some day.

Anyone have any input on a safe way to test EFSWEB?

What are you hoping to test?  As far as I can tell, the main difficulty is authentication.  After that, I'm not aware that there is any difference between various browsers and OSs.

Regards.

FWIW, I use a Mac and am able to use private PAIR fine and dandy via Firefox. I did have some minor hiccups in setup but nothing unsurmountable.

Nothing jumps out in my recollection as a pointer but if anyone has a specific question, I can attempt to answer as to how it works for me..  :)

Instructions for Safari (Currently Version 7.1)
1) Install Java (From Java.com)

2) Add EFS website to the approved "site list" for Java:
    - Open the Java Preferences in Preferences (for OS X)
    - Select Edit Site List
    - Add the secure https "efs.uspto.gov"
In summary: Preferences (for OS X) -> Java -> Edit Site List (Add:efs.uspto.gov)

3) Open Safari Preferences (from the Safari Menu in the program)
    - Select Security
    - Select Manage Website Settings
    - Select Java
    - for the efs.uspto.gov website select "Run in Unsafe Mode"
In summary: Safari -> Preferences -> Security -> Manage Website Settings -> Java -> efs.uspto.gov -> Run in Unsafe Mode

You may need to restart Safari.

biotechCowboy, you rock!   Thanks much for posting this.   Worked for me on 10.9.5, with a couple of simple changes:   In step 2, once the "Java Control Panel" is up, click on the "security" tab and then edit the site list.  Don't forget to use https.   I don't know if it matters, but my security level on this page is set to 'high'.    in step 3, there was no entry for efs.uspto.gov, but it was listed as ppair.uspto.gov and I selected that for the 'unsafe mode'.   After authenticating, it looks like it hangs, but you can open private pair from the menu bar under patents->private_pair.

Just tried this and it works!!!!  I didn't have the hanging problem as described.  I haven't tried EFS-web yet, but if someone has, please keep us posted!  Thanks!
