my 'product' already exists

hey there everyone
I have done some research and the actual product I am thinking about producing already exists BUT is not being marketed in the way I would market it...so the product does exist but is not being used the way I am thinking.
So is this product/idea still patentable?
OR should I just buy these items and go about marketing it the way I want to.
Ive found a few places in China that are making this product, but I dont think they have patented this product here in Canada so can I?

Assuming the product has "existed" for more than a year, you cannot patent it.  That's the short answer, at least.
