I could see my search experience being of modest use (learning a second way of doing things is quicker than learning your first), but the patent bar looks tangential at best. On the other hand - does anyone without prior IP experience get hired as an examiner at any grade for chemistry/biology these days?

There are about 25 or so people in 1600 and 1700 who started on 11/19, and most don't have any IP experience.  None of the 12 or so chem people in my training lab has any previous IP experience.

What a joke....It just goes to show there is no rhyme or reason as to how the hiring PTO thinks. Sometimes they only hire pople with no experience other times they hire people with PHd and years of exprience to grade 7/9, how stupid.

I interviewed in the last round of 7/9 chemistry and I was denied like a lot of other much better qualified applicants, I'd like to know how many of these hires with no experience will still be there in a year.

Checked mine and it's still the same thing.  The waiting game continues to drag.

I guess there is a double edge sword to all of this considering if I haven't heard anything then I'm still in the running and I haven't been rejected.

Did you get an email from USAJOBS about a status notification?

Nope nothing I guess I will call around lunch tomorrow.

My interview was similiar.  Very basic non technical questions.  More about how you approach critism, heavy work load and having discussions with those who have different ways of doing things.

My interviewer made it seem as if the job was there for me, but I dont think this is so.  Does anyone out there know what the odds are of getting hired after an interview are.

The rumor seems to be thousands apply, many are qualified, less are forwarding to a selecting official and even less are interviewed.  So is it something like 25 spots are open and they interviewed 30 people or 25 spots are open and they interviewed 250 people.

I have a feeling this also changes for each round of applications.

I was given the impression that the hiring rate was around 65-85 percent of those interviewed were selected.

Where did you get this idea/information from?  Just curious.

It has been awhile but I remember the percentage estimation from this site and a former SPE who work for the PTO years ago

It is so hard to evaluate how my interview went, They asked the same diagnostic questions they ask everyone, "How do you respond to criticism" etc. They did ask me what grade I was willing to come in at. They did say they are coming to the end of the fiscal year and hiring is 1500 this year ( almost done)and 1500 next year, then 400 after that.
