Problem: I am a small-time inventor and for a few years now I have worked closely with my lawyers to patent several small inventions. As my inventions have become more complex so too have the patent applications become more difficult. For example, a recent application was blocked on account of a previous patent that I own!

In working with my lawyers to solve such problems I find that my lack of formal knowledge of IP law and law in general makes it difficult for me to ask insightful questions or give clear directions to the lawyers.

Solutions????: I am considering enrolling in an online IP course or a Paralegal course at a College or University  near my home in Charlotte. The time investment is substantial but I am considering a long term approach to improving my IP knowledge so that it will still be beneficial 10 or 20 years down the road.

Does this approach make sense?
Is this the best way to achieve my goals or are there better alternatives?
Are there any online courses/paralegal courses near Charlotte you can recommend?

Thanks very much for reading this long post! Any and all help would be much appreciated.
