Is it possible to obtain a formulation patent where the key to the product is the combination of natural ingredients rather than the concentrations of the ingredients?  Or are the concentrations of the ingredients necessary to obtain a patent?

As background information, all of the ingredients are readily available but the product will work with varying concentrations of the ingredients.  There are some competing products in the marketplace, but most seem to be ineffective for many customers.  None of the products currently on the market have both of 2 key ingredients in them.

Hypothetically, yes, the combination of ingredients has to be considered novel and non-obvious.

If you use the search feature atop these forums, you should be able to find a few threads on the subject of patenting recipes.

When do you search, don't initiate it in the displayed search box on a post page like this one as it will merely search just that page.

Instead, hover the mouse cursor over search, in the banner (home, patent, trademark..) select 'forums' and then search from there.
