Filing patent in other contries outside of US usually costs a lot of money. And, the translation fee for the patent application which should be paid to the Patent Attorney in that contry accounts for a large part of the cost. So, why not employ a foreign patent attorney, say a Chinese patent attorney or a Japanese patent attorney fluent in English, in your firm to do the translation work instead? The salary you pay your employee will be much less than the translation fee.It will cut a lot of money for both your clients and yourself. And, the foreign patent attorney in your firm can also provide great details of what is the application procedure in that contry.
The patent firm in Japan is now employing more and more Chinese patent attornys to translate their Japanese application into Chinese version, and the total cost, especially the translation fee, is greatly reduced. I think it is benefical to your clients and make your firm competitive on filing foreign appications. What do you think?
