I got an idea to sell
« on: 04-26-08 at 06:33 am »

I'm 24 old guys from Finland. I have an great idea, and web portal idea. I would like to sell it, or more likely partially sell and still partner with the buyer.. i lack of resources to produce that idea alone. Is it possible to get that idea sold and be able to work with the buyer to create it? And how to start? I would even be ready to partner with big corporation (without any payment) on this if i could get in contact with one..

I'v already sent emails to google and other big web corporations simply asking if they would be interested of talking about business idea, not telling much about my idea.. no replies this far.

Hey Blaine,

Nothing to say but:

Join the club.  And good luck.

Little in life and business comes easy.  Be intelligent, creative, and persistent though, and you should be alright.

I'll add just a bit....

I realize that Finland and Norway are different countries, but you should be aware of the hostility of the region to IP for software/Internet technology.

Last I heard, Norway will not grant a patent on anything that could be implemented in software -- unfortunately, that also includes somethings implemented in electronic circuitry.  Last I heard, Norway was also not a member of the EPO, so forget about Norwegian protection through that route.

The EPO seems to be particularly hostile toward software/Internet technology with respect to patents.  I believe that includes Finland.  I've stopped using the EPO as searching authority for most of my PCT applications because they refuse to even search for related art in that type of technology.

In short, you live in an area that simply does not value the type of innovation you may have come up with.  Accordingly, convincing someone to invest in your idea sufficiently that you might achieve commercialization of your idea is particularly unlikely.

As someone who loves the promise of the information age and its enabling technology, I'm very sorry to bring that news to you.

Best regards.
