Hello all,
I am new to this or any intellectual properties forums. I have tried running searches, but I am hard-pressed to find any solid answers to the questions I have so I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.
I am a freshman at LSU (i know it's early, but bare with me, please) currently studying Chemical Engineering. Due to my location in Louisiana, it is one of the most established engineering professions and a natural choice that I more or less fell into. I am not obligated to any field in any way, and I am equally proficient in Math, Sciences, as well as Liberal Arts; however, I am sure that I want to pursue some sort of career in intellectual properties. I particularly have my eye set on litigations. I plan on attending law school. I cannot seem to get any real advice on what employers are looking for, and I want to plan a career path now so I will have some sort of goal in mind.
Which engineering or science degree, for that matter, is generally most appreciated? Which are the most exclusive? How much work experience do employers like one to have before they go to law school or take the USPTO? There are great co-op jobs available here at the plants. Would they be influential in a resume? Does anyone know if Petroleum Engineering is a viable and lucrative degree to have because I have been offered several scholarships to join the college, but have been a bit uncertain, not knowing its practical applications in patent law?
Sorry for the long and I'm sure already well-discussed posts, but any advice or links of any kind would be greatly appreciated.
