what exactly needs to be included in the patent? it only needs to enable one to make the invention? there is a part of the invention that I would think falls under trade secret and is not needed to make the invention work, but just enhances it to perform better. Will I be able to leave this information out of the application?

Nope!
There's this little statutory problem about "best mode".  One cannot disclose the basic invention and keep the "good stuff" a trade secret.
