I work in computer industry. I have a designed a small piece of logic that is better than existing ones and has several advantages. I would like to apply for a patent on this. As a standalone unit I am able to prove that this works. The block has many applications and is actually one of the primitive building blocks many systems. Is it necessary that I need to prove that it works in the full system also, because neither me nor my company has the resources to build such systems.  Please provide me any info. you can ..

You don't have to prove an invention works.  You just need to convey in a patent application a good understanding of how it works through both a description and related drawings.  For the most part, a "person having ordinary skill in the art" must be able to read the patent application and know how to practice the invention (and it must be clear that the invention has a known utility).
