Is there any way that you can get permission to use current music on a video that you are making.  How do you go about paying royalties??

I am also interested in how to begin the search to use music in small indy film.  Most of the artists are on small labels.  I would be interested in how to research this as well as to know an estimated cost - what music has gone for in the past.   I would have started a new topic but it seems we both basically want the same info - plus I can't figure out how to start a new post!
Any help or any of your experiences would be appreciated.
