how to file the mark- standard or stylized?

Does it matter if you submit a standard character drawing vs. a stylized?

If a competing company has a similar name but with a different font color would that matter at all?

i want to make sure- otherwise it sounds like the standard character is the best way since it preserves the generic form?

well now i just found out that the typed drawing offers the broadest protection

and thus why the rule has been amended to replace typed with standard character drawings

but does this really resolve that problem?? I am confused how that changed amendment changed anything?

A standard character ("word mark") registration covers your brand name, regardless of how a third party uses it (i.e., without regard to the style, type face, color, etc.).

A standard character registration does not cover any graphical aspect of your branding, for example, a particular text style (think Coca Cola's stylized word logo) or particular color schemes.  Thus, if a competitor knocked-off your logo without using a similar sounding/looking word to your word mark, your word mark registration would not be helpful to you.
