Copyright, reprint help
« on: 09-09-07 at 11:28 am »

Dear friends,
I want to ask that I am writing an article on a topic, and for that I collect information from various websites. Now I write my article, and at the end put "Information gather from following sources( give credits to author)" and state the names/links of the website from where I collected the information, or I put a "Disclaimer" at end of article over there

Is it possible without the infringement of copyright?
Please help me, I am able to do this, without the author's permission

Thank you ???

Bare facts are not subject to copyright, at least not in the United States.  (Just say no to database protection.)  It is nice to say in your article where you found those facts so that others can check your sources, but it is not a copyright issue.

For example, if I read in a book that J. Edgar Hoover enjoyed eating cottage cheese for lunch, I can include that fact in my own writings without having to get permission to use the information.  But someone reading my writings might want to verify that I'm right about the cottege cheese, so if I have written a scholarly article, they will want to be able to find out that I read the fact in the book of Hoover's housekeepers memoirs or whatever.

In most cases you wouldn't need to get permission to quote the housekeeper, either.  You could write something like: Hanna Housekeeper said "Mr. Hoover always was very particular about having his cottege cheese at lunch along with some grapefruit when in season."

How strange.  Apparently the forum doesn't like the word spelled "g-r-a-p-e-f-r-u-i-t" (a large yellow citrus fruit, shoudl this get blocked again).
