Could someone tell me if an slogan that will be put on an article of clothing is patentable?

Slogans are not patentable per-se.

If you were to devise a new method for imbuing your clothing with messages, you would be able to file for a utility patent on the process and perhaps a design patent for the unique resultant ornamental appearance.

Design patents are strange though, and don't seem to be very common.

I think a trademark is what you're actually looking for.

A trademark or service mark properly used can be registered. You just put it on an article of clothing the PTO may not consider it a trademark use.
