handling tables
« on: 01-06-07 at 06:58 pm »

I have tables that require special software to put together and cannot be easily placed inside a Word document. I can't seem to find any clear prescriptions of how to handle tables, and the Nolo books talk exclusively about drawings (a serious oversight).

What is the best way to handle tables like that?

Can I create a new section entitled TABLES and provide them there?

Or must I incorporate them inside of the list of figures (Fig 1 shows Table 1 in which ....). In that case, is it OK to have the table legend

Fig 1.
TABLE 1 A Representation of Data Results for Process in Embodiment 1
                <colum heading> <column heading>
<row title> <data>               <data>

This would seem to violate the precept that you shouldn't include text in figures. I tried searching the rules but had no luck. Thanks for your help!

608.05(b) Compact Disc Submissions of Large Tables [R-3]

37 CFR 1.58 Chemical and mathematical formulae and tables.

If the table is large submit as on a CD. The reference to the rule is above.

BTW - text in figures is allowed.
