Does anyone know how to remove a reference cited by the PTO that is attributable to the inventors' work?

Thanks!

I don't know if I can provide the right answers. However, answers to the following questions may help to specify your inquiry.

What type of rejection have you received?
(35 U.S.C. 102(b)? ; 35 U.S.C. 103(a)?)

What do you mean by "attributable?"

Has the PTO cited a prior art reference attributing authorship to the same inventive entity as the examined patent application?

Does the examined patent application name multiple inventors?

Are all of the claims in the patent application attributable to the same inventive entity?
(consider claim by claim)

Has the PTO cited a patent application or patent?

If you answer these questions, perhaps I or others will ask further questions, provide answers toward which you should be skeptical and rely upon your own judgement, and refer you to portions of the MPEP.

Kanpai!
