Quoting from an Interview
« on: 01-06-04 at 09:30 pm »

Question 1: Is taking quotes from an interview done by a writer considered a copyright infringement?

For example, I go and interview a famous person and they say, "My name is Bill."

I put that within a copyrighted article.

Would it be a copyright infringement for someone else to use the "My name is Bill" quote in their own article, without giving me credit.

Question 2:  Is taking quotes from an interview (or press conference) done by the Associated Press a copyright infringement (if taking the quote is done in the same matter as above)?

In essence, my main question would be: Is it against copyright laws to take a quote from an interview which I had no possible way of hearing and using them in my own article?

Dear Bazoka 45,

If this were a hypothetical question in a lawschool class on copyright many pages could be written on the possibilites.
