Aspects/Objects
« on: 10-23-06 at 05:53 pm »

There seems to be great variety in use of the terms:

(i) aspect of the invention

(ii) objects of the invention

and in some cases even embodiments seem like aspects.

At times it seems that the terms are used interchangeably.  Is there a particular rhyme or reason for their use, or is it that anything goes ?

I'd suggest avoiding both aspects and objects of the invention in an application.  Embodiments are okay.

I think it's too easy to characterize aspects and objects as defining characteristics, while embodiments are examples and not defining.

Regards.

I typically see the words aspect and objects used only in the summary of an application.   An aspect of an invention sounds to me to be a limitation required by the invention that is begging to either be read into a claim otherwise silent on the aspect or to even worse to be used render such a claim invalid.
