trademark for future internet sictom

Me and a friend are writing a couple of scripts we hope to shoot one day in the future. it will be distributed online (and maybe on day dvd) and its in teh form of a sitcom.

The name we want to use is "Down Main". I figured it would be a good idea to try and trademark it. I cant seem to find a site that allows me to look up trademaks without paying a hefty fee.

Is there a site i can use to look up trademarks for free?

Sorry for triple posting, Last time for the night i promise.

Ther are two instances where "Down Main" is registered, but the are written out differently. My question is, can I use the term "Down Main" as long as its drawn differently then the first two?

Dear Steve,

I truly hope your script writing (or maybe just your typing) is better than your blogging.   ;)

First, you should NEVER disclose your mark or other proprietary intellectual property information in a public blog.  You risk its theft for similar goods and/or services by someone else.  You should only discuss a mark in hypothetical terms.  However, the damage is already done.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office offers free access to all records currently on file, both live and dead, at www.uspto.gov/trademarks.  Possibly one of the attorneys participating here will assist you further.  Good luck.

Steve,
You can mitigate the damage of posting your mark by clicking "Modify" by your posts.  You then should be able to change it to a nondescript word that still retains the sense of the sentence.
