I am going to make and sell birdhouse painted with NFL team colors.  Want to place an offical NFL sticker on each one.  Does this infringe on anything?

If by "official NFL sticker" you mean licensed stickers you've purchased, you may be in the clear legally (although the NFL may still come after you if they catch wind of your sales).  The question is essentially whether you're using the purchased items as intended (as in taking fabric with licensed artwork and making a pillow for resale), in which case you're pretty much on the right side of the law, so to speak.

You might want to check out TabberOne's website for more information about incorporating licensed merchandise into items for resale.  She's not an attorney, but probably should be.

I have a similar question. We have a patent for let's say, widgets, we want to paint the widgets wih NFL team colors, then include a packet of either the team that goes with the color or a full NFL team packet of stickers for free.  Or should we sell the widgets on the web separately and then sell or give stickers for free with purchase?

Painting a product with "team colors" is generally allowed.  You may also resell or otherwise transfer items baring a team logo (i.e., a team trademark) provided the item is legitimate (i.e., not counterfeit or otherwise unlicensed).

I suppose I may be asking the same question from a similar vantage point.  I am looking to begin manufacturing and selling a plastic promotional product that ultimately I intend on having officially collegiately licensed.  That being said, as I understand it, you have to be able to validate your ability to manufacture and distribute your products to the CLC (Collegiate Licensing Corporation) before you can get approved...kind of a chicken and an egg situation.

I am currently exploring the idea of having the first "batch" of products manufactured in the color of the school team I am wanting to represent, and selling them as a "kit" with an officially licensed sticker set with the logo for that school.

My objective is simply to get the business going, prove out my manufacturing and distribution capabilities and then go to CLC and apply for the official licensing so that I may print the university logo right on the product and eliminate the need for purchasing and reselling the stickers.

Your input is greatly appreciated!
