Author Topic: The use of Government trade mark or Logo for profi  (Read 949 times)

Greetings All,

I will be seeking legal advice from 2 different firms this week on this topic.  However,  I came across this site while seeking for the truth myself.  My question is that I will be using the United States Post Office logo or trademark of the eagle for a  product that I will be marketing for profit in the near future.  Does anyone think that I will be doing anything illegal in this matter.  I would hate to get this started and later down the line the USPS sees how well I'm doing and take me for all I'm worth.  Any advice is welcome.

Thanks

The short answer is, yes, you'll likely be infringing the USPS' trademark.

Thank you for your reply.  Thats what I thought.  With the product that I am making I have seen other small businesses make the same type of product.  It should also be known that I am also an employee of the U.S. Post Office.  Would that make a difference as to weither or not I can use this logo for profit?  Also upon getting permission from the USPS to use there TM are they going to sock it to me for a fee?  Percent of profit?  Or just be nice and give me a nice letter of approval.  It most scenario's what is the case.

I only talked with one Lawyer today that came up under an Intellectual Property search on the web.  After talking with him he really had nothing to do with that type of practice.  However he was more then willing to help me out the best he could.  I am waiting for another contact tomorrow.  Thaks for your time.

Note to self: add Lyza to the Christmas Card List ;-)

Lyza is right that I practice this type of law daily.  My clients are largely individuals and start-ups, and my billing rates reflect that fact.  Please feel free to call.
