hi i have wrote some songs and i would like to send the off to someone but my family say the i need to copyright them before i do and i was woundering how i would do it?

Dear Love 2 Sing,

Even the copyright law does not protect the idea. Whether you have a registered copyright or not markings, you still have to find the publisher that would be willing to pay you.

The worst is, that even with a copyright registered, the concept of your song can be used without violating your rights.

You may give a good idea to a publisher who can use the idea without infringing a copyright.

First of all realize what IS the song. The Melody is. Nothing else. You can not own Harmoies or rythems. You can protect the words of a song but they alone are not a song.

Transcribe the Melody or have it transcribed. Record it. Publish it. Its yours. Then sue like crazy. lol

You only need to put the song in some sort of tangible form, recording, written down etc. It would be also good to have some sort of proof of when you recorded it.
