usage of standard fonts in logos...
« on: 01-25-06 at 11:48 pm »

Hello,

Does anyone know if there are any problems with using a standard font (i.e., Arial) to create a logo that will be registered as a trademark?

Thanks much.

Generally speaking, there is no issue there, but why would you be registering a mark with a common font?  Common fonts can't provide any trademark functionality, practically speaking, so why claim it?  You'd likely be better advised to file a standard character mark, not a graphical mark.

I completely agree with you about trademarking the text, rather than the logo. I was just curious about this issue. Even if I would use a standard font for a logo, I would strech it/bend it/whatever. I wouldn't leave it as is...

Thanks a lot.
