Dear melanie,
The costs vary by lawyer and by country. The important thing is to do it right and understand what is being done and how to acheive YOUR objectives.
Trademarks and Copyrights have different lives. It is suggested that you find a lawyer that you can trust that is familiar with the particular aspect of the law.
The law in UK an US are similar. In the UK my understanding is that no copyright notice is necessary. It is still a good idea to use a UCC notice to help for internatal rights in copyright.
You can learn a lot on a forum but it pays in the long run to use a qualified professional, you can trust, if you have anything of value.
When you are in trouble it REALLY costs.
