Patenting An Old Game Concept

How is it possible to patent a new software "method of play" based on an old game concept such as; (ie.  Poker, Blackjack etc.),  Which i see happening in the Casino Gaming Environment - What variances does the Patent Examiner look for to distinguish patent-ability.
