Legal recourse?

Architect #1 works 9 months to come up with solution to retrofit medical building. After many failed attempts,
client hires architect#2 to create floor plan and construction drawings. (no signed contract, drawings are copyright stamped.)
In a short time Architect #2 comes up with solution to retrofitthe building then after being treatened by architect #1.. client gives the floor plan to architect #1 to complete construction drawings.
Ethically architect #1 should not take anothers plans but legally is there any recourse??
