TradeMark vs Industrial Design

I have read that one could trademark a design or a shape. To save on registration cost and to be able to bring my product to market faster, I am considering trademarking the shape/design of a new coffee table. My question is if the design and shape is my trademark is that sufficient enough to prevent someone from MAKING or COPYING my design based on my trademark?

For example if coke had trademarked the shape of their bottle and not registered the shape/design, would they have the rights to prevent say pepsi from making a bottle in the same shape/design since the design was not registered just trademarked?

Thank you,
Thomas
