San Francisco Bay area. Also heard of somebody living in Washington state. Under the current program, you can work it out and only report once a month (spanning two biweeks). If you live within the 50 mile radius of the office you never have to return to the office.

They are starting a pilot program for people who live outside the 50 mile radius that takes advantage of the new OPM regulations that remove the reporting requirement. However, they are currently only allowing 25% of the hotelling examiners to participate in the program. There are a lot of examiners interested in this pilot program and the waiting list will be huge (25% of the hotelling emolyees are already currently living outside the 50 mile radius).

Interesting, when did they start the pilot program to remove the reporting requirement after qualifying for hoteling?

I imagine most examiners, once they hit GS-12 and the other requirements, will want to take advantage of that once it moves up from being a pilot program in a year or two.  Being able to live anywhere in the continental US on an examiner's government pay rate and living somewhere with no state income taxes, low property taxes, and an all around lower cost of living would be very nice.

I heard of 1 examiner working out from Hawaii.

Unless there is an examiner working out from Samoa (which is a US territory), I think Hawaii is the record for the hoteling program.

What are the requirements of hoteling as of 2011? Have they changed at all since 2010?

One of the first examiners to hotel was doing so from Seattle Washington.
