Picking a firm
« on: 10-12-11 at 07:40 pm »

If you had a choice between a top V25 firm that did some IP work but was ranked at the lower end of the V-scale for IP,
or you could pick a firm ranked at the lower end of the V-100 scale but was ranked highly at top 25 V-scale for IP,
which one would you choose and why?

Can you define V-scale or provide a link?  I have no idea what that means.  I'm still new at this stuff.

edit: nevermind, I found vault.com...

Personally, I think you should just talk to some people that work at the respective firms and make a decision.  Those rankings seems contrived and arbitrary.

Those rankings are completely arbitrary for IP.

To answer your question, I would see what type of patent work they do.  This can be checked quite easily by looking up how many patent attorneys the firms have on the USPTO agent/attorney search, and then looking at the IP Today firm list to see how many patents they filed.  If the number is high, say 15x or more patents per attorney, they do a lot of patent prosecution, if it is low, say 1x or less patents per attorney, they do almost all patent litigation with perhaps some transactional and other IP work.

Depends on what type of work you are looking for, which is a whole different question if you have not figured it out.  You can get payscales, bonuses, etc... from other sites after you figure that out.
