I am an attorney who is practicing non-patent law areas.  I have BS and MS in Molecular Biology and some experience as a researcher (bio) and legal staff in the patent law firm (in foreign country).  After I graduated from the law school, I tried very hard to get a job in the patent law, I could not do, though.  That time I could not even sit for the patent bar since I was not even an LPR.  Now I solve my status problem and really want to get a job as a patent attorney, even patent agent.  Although I did not take the patent bar yet, I will take it by end of this year.  The thing is I do not know where I start looking for the job.  It seems like most of firms prefer either PhDs or 2nd-year law school students starting as associates.  So, I do not see any chance for me.  Any idea or advice will be greatly appreciated.

You are right, most firms prefer a PhD.  Also, the job market is fairly bad right now for new attorney/agents.  There is a fairly good chance that, even once you pass the patent bar, you will get no responses without any work experience.  I don't think this is the best time to be trying to switch practices.
