Music Covers
« on: 09-12-11 at 06:38 am »

I just finished a project recording The Beatles Abbey Road Album on my home studio with the only goal of having fun and to learn in the proccess. I recorded every instrument and sang all the songs with no use of any samples.
I have no intentions on selling anything or making any money out of it.
I shared the results in a music forum (www.kvraudio.com) to get opinions on my work but the moderator of the forum told me this might be ilegal because IŽd need copyright holder's authorization to share my recordings.
I would really apprecciate some orientation because I want to fully respect the work of the artists I love.

Copyright ownership confers a bundle of rights--including the right to distribute, reproduce, and publicly perform a work.  By "sharing", I assume you uploaded your recordings, or provided a link where others could listen.  I think you need a license.

On another note, there might be a fair use defense if the scope of your use is educational.  That's a separate issue which is rarely black and white.
