How important are law school recs?

I have a rec from a prof that I used to get into grad school for engineering, I know it's a really good rec. Is it okay if I use that as one of my rec letters? How important are the rec letters in law school admissions? I was also going to use one from a superior if I get land a job as a tech specialist in a patent law firm.

How old is the recommendation letter in question?  It might be off the charts good, but its effect might be snubbed if it is more than a year old.

Oh it's from 2010. Is even a year that long? I heard maybe up to three years was okay from my friend.

But I guess my other point is that it was geared toward engineering grad school, not law school. Should I still use it? It's from an engineering professor.
