Unlike many of the others on the site, I found your site and information very welcoming. My 10 year old daughter just won the Xerox National Invention competition receiving the Chester Award. This contest was also sponsored BKFK.com. We are flying to New York for her to receive her award at the Licensing International Show at the Jacob Javits center. With winning the invention competition, she wins the trip to New York receive her award, prizes and a licensing agreement. BKFK is taking on all financial aspects-patenting her product, creating a different prototype, and licensing her invention. We are very new to this and she does have several other inventions as well. Since they will be handling all aspects of the licensing procedure, hiring attorneys for us, etc., is there anything in your opinion that you would advise us to expect or look out for? I want to know what to expect in order to protect my daughter's rights.

At the very least, I would have an attorney representing your daughter's interests during this process.  There is no reason to believe that BKFK has your daughter's best interest in mind at all times.

Importantly, you shouldn't sign anything without first having your attorney review it.

While I don't know anything specific about BKFK.com, I'll have to second Jeff's admonition that you're going to have to look out for your own rights.  There have been many many horror stories about invention submission company scams and the horrible reputation seems to taint anything resembling an invention submission company.  A good attorney should be able to look over the contract and give you a good synopsis fairly reasonably.  In the long run, it's a wise investment.

Congrats and Good luck!
