Category A or B applicant?
« on: 06-07-11 at 11:19 am »

Hi all,

My transcript lists my major as "Chemistry" and more specifically "Chemistry Complete" since I completed the major. I've heard and read that a category A application requires that your major be exactly as listed in the requirements. In my case this would be "General Chemistry". Do I still have to apply under category B even though my major is effectively "General Chemistry"?

Pardon what may be a stupid question, but major aside, what is your degree?  Is it a BS in chemistry?  The way your question is written makes it sound as if you got the required hours for the major, but may not have completed the degree.

To try to answer your actual question, I've always understood that a BS (BA) in "Chemistry" to mean the same as "General Chemistry".  So I'd be surprised if you get any grief for listing "Chemistry" under "major as indicated on transcript".  After all, what school does list "General Chemistry" on transcripts?  Don't they just call it "Chemistry" as long as it isn't "Bio-" or "Organic" or "Inorganic" or "Polymer" (etc.) Chemistry?

Anyone else?

Thanks for your advice.

Apologize for the ambiguity. I've got a BA in Chemistry.
