Arguably just the opposite.  If the examiner has "considered" them and found them to be nonpertinent, it is harder for another company to try to use them against you.

There have been concerns that someone loading up an IDS with very way-out things was "hiding a relevant needle in a stack of irrelevant needles".

For what it's worth, one way to avoid that issue is to file 2 IDSes, one with references that seem to be more relevant for whatever reason and one with everything else.  Basically, you'd cite the needle and the haystack separately.  Of course, that doesn't mean that there's not another needle in the haystack, but you do what you can.
