"Lending" Music

On a cassette from about 10 years ago it says among other things that "unauthorized . . . lending" is prohibited.  What exactly does that mean?

First sale allows the buyer of a copyrighted work to dispose
of the work by sell or transfer without authorization of the
copyright holder.   However there are some statutory limits
to first sale that include lending, leasing, or rental of
sound recordings for direct or indirect commercial gain without
permission of the copyright holder.  My guess is that the
notice on the tape reserves the copyright holder's right
to prevent such lending or rental.

I don't think the law allows the copyright holder to prevent
you from lending the tape to your dad without charge, but
maybe some kind of trading club where you temporarily exchanged
cassettes with strangers might result in indirect commercial
gain.

Again, just a guess.
