Seek feedback on patent web site
« on: 04-29-11 at 07:57 pm »

I am a patent agent, currently freelance.  I've put up a web site for my services, and would welcome feedback.  I wasn't sure where else to post this, this career forum seemed most appropriate.

The site is:  http://www.opatent.com

I'm open to all feedback, but in particular... on the main page I have four Flash animations (main logo, patent, technical writing, technical expertise).  I would like to know if these effectively get their message across.  Also, various people tell me they either run too slow or too fast, I could use feedback on that as well.

While I'm here, I am open to either contract work or a staff position, either from other law firms or in-house.  You can reach me via the e-mail on the web site.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

It is ok as a basic website, web 2.0 features are not really expected in a solo's website, especially your first attempt.  You do not want flashing/changing pictures though, it pulls readers eyes off of the important content.   And you have flashing pictures all over your main page.

The home page should be simple and stylish, with additional information in links on the side.  Information pages, and especially the front page, should never be longer than 2 pages.  One page is one screen.  A web page is just like a resume, you never want it to be extremely long.  Many professional sites have a front pages less than a page long.

Nice job steve. My one criticism: I always wonder why some website makers make it hard to contact the service provider.  YOu have no contact info on your home page.

I think it is pretty good, I especially liked the sample patents section.

OP:  Thanks to everyone who replied.  I've added the contact info to the home page.  I'm keeping the flashing animations for now, but I'll keep the advice in mind.
