Help with a chemical compound
« on: 04-25-11 at 09:25 pm »

Hi Everyone!

I have an idea for a new product, but need help with coming up with the chemical compound.  How would someone with an "idea" go about finding someone who could "engineer" the correct chemical compound prototype?

Your help is very much appreciated!!

You may find someone at your local college or university.

Step 1:  Raise venture capital;
Step 2:  Hire a research chemist.

Or vice versa.

Do you know if there are "freelance" research chemists, or would I be contacting a company that specializes in chemical research?  I assume an NDA would be signed before any work begins on the compound itself.  Does anyone have experience dealing with a research chemist, maybe a ballpark hourly rate on what they charge?

Thanks!

There are many sites out on the web that provide directories of chemical consultants, including freelance chemists.

See, e.g.,:

www.acs.org (look up your local chapter)
http://www.chemconsult.org/
http://www.chemconsultants.org/

Google "chemical consultants" for a bunch of others.
