As we know the Republic of Croatia and the European Union negotiate for accession of the country to the Community.
One part of the accession procedure is associated with intellectual property, particularly here it refer to geographical indications.
A list of 30 geographical indications for wine and spirits from Croatia have been submitted to the European Commission for coordination and approval. The aim is after that they can be recognized within the EU.
The list can be found here.
The Commission invites any third Member State or a single interested party to object to the recognition of these geographical indications if there are any reasons for that. The objection must be justified and supported by clearly stated assertions and claims.
The European Commission provides a period of two months to lodge objections that can be sent to this address - AGRI-B2@ec.europa.eu
Looking down the list of indications for wines and spirits, two of them made an impression because they have a slight resemblance to the geographical name in Bulgaria - Dalmatinska zagora (about the word Zagora) and Zagorje - Međimurje (also about the word Zagorje).
